Chicken Cafreal Recipe – Goan Style

Chicken Cafreal Recipe is the most famous Goan Chicken Dish. Goan Chicken Cafreal Recipe is very commonly cooked mostly served with bread and also like a snack with fried potatoes. Chicken Cafreal Goan Style is my favorite dish from childhood. Check our other chicken recipes

Ingredients for Chicken Cafreal Recipe – Goan Style

500 gms Chicken (washed and drained)

1/2 tsp tumeric powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 medium Onion chopped

Water (if required)

4 tbsp Oil


1 small Onion

1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste

3 Green Chillies

1 tsp Coriander Seeds

1 tsp Whole Cumin Seeds

7-8 peppercorns

2 inch Cinnamon Stick

1/2 teaspoon turmeric

6 cloves

1 bunch fresh Coriander leaves

1/2 tsp Garam Masala

2 tbsp Lemon juice

l tsp rum (optional)

Pinch Salt

Directions for Chicken Cafreal Recipe – Goan Style

1Cut the chicken into required pieces and make slits on the chicken, and apply tumeric and salt and keep aside.

2Grind the masala given in the Grinding to a fine smooth paste and then rub all over the chicken on all sides and keep it aside to marinate in fridge for overnight or for 2-3 hours.

3In a pan heat oil and fry the onions till they are transparent .

4Then add the marinated chicken pieces and cook on both the sides evenly for 5-7 minutes and then add water and let it get cooked for 15-20 minutes till the chicken is cooked (not too dry) on slow flame. If necessary you can add little water.

5Serve Goan Chicken Cafreal with rice or bread (pao) or as a snack with fried potatoes.

The more longer the chicken in kept under marination, the chicken cafreal will become more tasty.
